(Grid format a la Doyle's setup available here.)

gen/ensemble

25 occasions people have celebrated in the Jossverse by Minnow
Poignant and funny and echoing . . . yeah, there's a reason this has been recced all over the place.

Access Denied by Amy (PG-13)
Authorial Summary: Spike's got a chip. Lilah's got a solution... at a price.

All Tweedy and Sarcastic by Ari (PG-13)
The day between "Once More, With Feeling" and "Tabula Rasa." The story follows Tara, but really it's about Willow's brand of magic and where she comes from.

Anywhere But Here by Sarah T (PG)
The sumer after "The Gift." Ethan takes Dawn on an adventure.

Aurora by HonorH
A tender story of one of the monks who knew the Key and helped make her into Dawn.

Back to the Start by Doyle (Spike and Joyce; S4, shortly after "Doomed"; PG)
A tender and awkward encounter, well-executed.

Battle, Interrupted by Dani (G)
Post-NFA with a St. Crispin's Day speech prompt, for Doyle's drabblethon. Lifts my heart.

Bed of Bones by RozK
The First Slayer. Jossed by "Get It Done" (7.15) but oh so powerful.

Birds and the Bees by Brynhild Spikess (PG)
The aftermath of S2 "Halloween" for one of the many changed children. (Explanation of which child exactly is in the comments.) Rips my heart out.

Bringing by Twinkledru J.
A chilling look at the future for Slayers.

Bunny Bunny Oxen-Free by k (Buffy, Anya; post-Chosen) [non-lj link]
This is such a fun read, with a wholly believable way of bring Anya back.

Campfire Tale for the End of Days by stultiloquentia [lj link]
Olden days when demons walked the earth, when vampires came on the scene, and when the first Slayer was. This is fascinating.

Candles by etothey [non-lj link]
Author notes: Angel spoilers through S4, kind of: AU-verse cascading from "Home": If Angel had had a daughter. Among other changes. ~2,000 words. Gen/ensemble (??).
End world peace and you got to make a wish, kind of like blowing out birthday candles. No one ever thought about what happened to the candles.

A Cold And Broken Hallelujah by nihilistbear (R) [non-lj link]
Post-"Chosen," told from the POV of the father of a Slayer. Buffy came to their family when Melody was only four months old, and now she's fourteen.

Collectible As We All Are by Mosca (Miki Ando & Buffy; PG-13; post-Chosen, Spoilers for the 2006 Olympics and references to skating events through the summer of 2007; ~about 2500 words)
I love this so hard. There is figure-skating . . . and Slayers . . . and this is just made of win.

Curiosity by kcarolj65 (PG-13)
Authorial Summary: Angel wants to see the real reason Buffy sends him back to LA (during Chosen).

Daughter Of The Hall by Jennifer-Oksana [personal website]
Authorial Summary: On monsters, hospitality, and death in cold places.
A Slayer in the time of Beowulf. I love what this does with both mythoi.

The Emperor of Ice Cream by Jessica (TV-14 for language)
Summary: Giles comforts Buffy with ice cream after graduation.
Giles' promise of ice cream is one of my favorite moments in the series.

Family Album Mireille (Connor and Angel gen, rating: FRC, set some time post-NFA [no comics spoilers], 550 words)
Connor, thinking about the people he has been and could have been. Very true-feeling.

The Five Games You Play In Heaven by Ari (multiple pairings)
Authorial Summary: Five afterlives that might yet be; everyone is surprised.

Five New York Minutes (That Never Were) by nwhepcat (R)
     Authorial Summary: 1. A reunion. 2. An awakening. 3. Another reunion. 4. A wedding. 5. A honeymoon.
Dark and adult (though the wedding is actually relatively light) and very well-done. Just trust me on this, because it spoils the stories some to tell you what they're about before you read them.

Five Ways NFA Probably Didn't End by [tkp] (5 parts, at 2,000+ words each)
Authorial Summary: Ensemble, with focus on Angel, Connor, Spike, Buffy, and Dawn.
I think the first one is my favorite, though I love Dawn in the second one. They keep getting darker, but I love the very ending of the last one.

Flight Patterns by Eurydice (R)
A stunning post-S2 AU. Written for Willa's Fractured Fairytale Ficathon and definitely one of the best entries. Interesting take on the tale in question (which isn't revealed until the end) but primarily a dark and rejuvenating tale of brokenness and growth and ways things could have been with just a touch of the fairy tale. And then at the end it folds back into the canon, though of course things are different because we have had this AU summer.

Four Ghosts by hollimichele (G) [proper feedback address is hollimichele @ gmail.com]
Authorial Summary: By the end of your sophomore year of high school, you're pretty sure that Sunnydale High is haunted.
This is so lovely.

Fragments Of Lines Written On The Bathroom Walls In Ten Different Fandoms by Amy (100 words each)
Fandom: Grey's Anatomy, Veronica Mars, Battlestar Galactica, Harry Potter, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Stargate Atlantis, Roswell, Lost, Angel, and Alias
Both the BtVS and Angel ones are brilliantly in character.

Friends in Common by Tania (PG)
Anya and Spike reminisce during "Buffy Vs. Dracula."

The Horror by Laure Alexander (PG)
Buffy catches Giles doing something horrible ;)

Identity in Motion by Jennifer-Oksana (written early S5)
"Nothing belongs to Eve; she is all-hollow and full of power for her masters."

In Search of Spike by spikeNdru (PG)
Authorial Summary: Lydia Chalmers survived the destruction of Council Headquarters. She wants to get on with her life, but she needs a purpose.

I've Seen You Sing by Tania (R)
Angel S2-end, through Lorne's eyes. (WIP)

Like Thelma and Louise, Kinda by viciouswishes (G, post-"Innocence," 331 words) [lj link]
The title says it all. A lovely vignette.

Loss by avariel_wings (G)
     Jesse is not forgotten.

A Lovely Light by soundingsea (Edna St. Vincent Milay / Wynne Matthison, R, ~1550 words)
Authorial Summary: "A Slayer has heroic appetites to match her deeds, and her Watcher is there to uphold her."
Yay for fictionalized historical figures, Watcher/Slayer, f/f, and poetry.

Manus by Kita (PG-13) [non-lj link]
post-"Damage" (Angel 5.11). Blood and ash. Boys and hands.

Miracle by Redeem147 (G)
What did "Amends" look like to everyone else in Sunnydale?

Neighbors by Amy (G)
Joyce doesn't want Buffy to end up like her.

Never Fall in Love With the Good Guys by HonorH
Lorne and Anya, after both finales. An inability to let go.

No Limits by various (R)
A Virtual Season 6 for Angel. (WIP in that the season isn't over yet.)

Normal Still by Darcy (G)
A very interesting take on "Normal Again." (Drabble, and difficult to talk about without giving anything away, but definitely worth checking out.)

Once in a Lullaby (Five Things That Happened Somewhere Else) by Doyle (PG-13)
An amazing look at "Normal Again" Buffy crafting so many little details of the first few seasons. No really, you need to read this. (Though admittedly the fifth part needs work.)

One by nostalgia (First Slayer, PG, post-"Chosen")
This conception of how the Slayer line works isn't one I share, but it's very interesting (and creepy).

One of the (unnamed) new Slayers, and how she's dealing by violethamster
[For Doyle's drabblethon.] I always have to read this through a few times to *get* exactly what's going on, but damn. *shivers*

Research Can Make You Punchy
Season Five-ish, no spoilers. The title pretty much says it all.

Revelations by Lizbeth Marcs (PG)
An AU S7 in which Willow's magic blasts in "Grave" (6.22) triggered something in Xander. The story is told from multiple POVs and the reader is drawn along in the mystery. Liz crafts a compelling argument for her premise.
The Ballad of Charles Whitman (Apocalypse Remix) by nwhepcat (R) [lj post and "DVD commentary" found here]
This remix is grounded in Xander's POV and is compelling whether you know what's coming (by virtue of having read the original) or not.

Reversal by Prophecy Girl
Post-Chosen. What happens to Buffy after that spell they did?

Romantic Comedies by Ari (Tara & Buffy, PG)
Authorial Summary: girly movies and lessons learned
The summer after S4.

The Signs that We Missed by Hannah
A look at Angel episode 2.15, "Reprise," telescoping backwards and forwards, all the way through the finale, looking at so many of the characters and the choices they made.
Destiny, Chance, Free Will, three different ways to say the ending writes itself.

Sincerely by Pru (Angel, Cordelia, ensemble; PG; AU set 3 years after the Angel S3 finale, incorporates some canon through S5)
A bittersweet story of how the Cordelia arc could have gone after the Angel S3 finale.

So Let Us Melt by Kyra Cullinan (PG)
Dawn and Giles. 5 years after "Chosen," the balance of power has shifted.

Strangers When We Meet by Kate Bolin (PG)
Authorial Summary: Giles gets a message from an old friend, and must make a painful decision.

Sunsets in Summer by Nihilistbear (PG)
A drabble trilogy: At different points in the series, Buffy, Spike, and Dawn think about sunsets.

Terror by Twinkledru J. (PG)
Authorial Summary: Tara haunts Giles, and they find that they have things -- and people -- in common.

Theodicy by Jintian (PG-13, Approx. 5,800 words)
Authorial Summary: After "Sleep Tight," Wesley finds the way back.
Jintian does a great job of keeping Wesley as part of the gang and showing Cordelia in particular as a strong character and also comes up with a brilliant idea for Quortoth.
Mortal Taste (Theodicy, the Lilah Morgan Remix) by karabair [thoughts on the remix process -- with spoilers for both fics -- here] (R)
Authorial Summary: AU after "Sleep Tight"; While Wesley finds his way back, Lilah looks for a way in.
This remix focuses more on Angel (who is very much stuck on the outside) and brings in Lilah, which changes some of the events of the original fic in very interesting ways.

Theses on a Philosophy of Power by glossolalia (R)
"The liberation of each single individual will be accomplished in the measure in which history becomes transformed into world history."
Take the Bolshevik Revolution, add one Jewish girl, infuse with Slayer powers, mix in an abusive Watcher. Go.

This Little Light by nwhepcat (Chosen Slayer, PG-13)
Authorial Summary: "It comes to her then. It's nothing she can see, but she thinks it could be an angel. It speaks to her heart and head without speaking, just warmth and softness and power. Asks her a question, makes her an offer. She says yes." One of Willow's new slayers awakens to her power in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, and finds herself coached by some surprising teachers. Written for the When the Clock Strikes challenge, introducing one new slayer for each time zone on earth.

Those Whom Moses Forgets by draconin (PG)
Not all the Sunnydale cops are as (willfully) oblivious as we see in canon. This is a very believable look at Sunnydale from the perspective of a cop who's learning and trying to help.

Tricky Witches by Twinkledru J. (Anya, Willow; PG)
Authorial Summary: Anya gets tricked. (AU)

Truth, like light, is blinding by flurblewig (PG) [personal lj link]
An alternative ending to "Conversations With Dead People" in which Buffy brings Holden home with her and does a truth spell to find out what's going on. Very interesting, and in-character, and there's snark and wit to boot.

Untitled by Kita (Angel, post-NFA)
"I would like to know what you think your favorite (or most interesting, or newest love, or shiniest, or whatever) character is doing this Xmas/Hannukah/Other." This ficlet focuses on Angel and feels so very true.

Warmth and Oncoming Darkness by debg (PG)
Angel by day. Buffy by night. Two drabbles.

Winners by Insomnitic (PG-13)
Stealing the words of the Crack Van rec:

Winners blew me away the first time I read it. Then I read several more times in one sitting. It's a short little story that looks unassuming but the ending sneaks up on you and then grabs you by the throat.
Set in Season 5, there's everything you'd find in the series: the Scoobies are together fighting and quipping, trying to keep Sunnydale from being overrun. Spike's playing both sides against each other. And Buffy's worrying over the implications of being a Slayer. The differences between her and them.
Most important of all, the Slayer always wins.
Working Girl by the Mad Poetess (PG)
Post-"Chosen" Xander. Authorial Summary: Of all the barstools in all the world...

Andrew/Giles

The Scapegoat by KindKit (NC-17)
     Season 7. A dark one-time.

Andrew/Xander

Jessica Rabbit Doesn't Count by Netgirl (PG-13)
Post-"Chosen." Cute and sweet, but not overly so. Believable. I actually enjoyed the fic, which is a rarity for me with this pairing.

Angel

It's What's Outside That Counts by Gabrielle (PG/FRT)
S3 BtVS. An interesting usage of the re-ensouling as a point of intimacy between Willow and Angel(us).

Kyrie Eleison by Kyra Cullinan (PG-13)
Authorial Summary: Angel was Catholic once.
A fascinating and believable look at Angel's relationship with the Catholic Church throughout his life and unlife.

Sketched in Red by Jane Davitt
Dark Angel drabble. He's always been an artist.

Untitled by Kita (Angel, post-NFA)
"I would like to know what you think your favorite (or most interesting, or newest love, or shiniest, or whatever) character is doing this Xmas/Hannukah/Other." This ficlet focuses on Angel and feels so very true.

Angel/Buffy

At Home Where the World Ends by Maren (Rating: Adult, post-NFA)
The author does a wonderful job of making the reader feel all the destruction and hurt and everything which would be true after NFA but which is so easy to gloss over.

If Ever: An Epic in 500 Words by Kita (R, 500 words) [non-lj link]
Authorial Summary: Five drabbles on the theme of Buffy and Angel, loss, pain, and smut, taking place during Passions, The Prom, I Will Remember You, Forever, and Chosen, respectively.

Possession by Jane Davitt (R)
High school era. A very believable vignette that nicely balances the childlike and adult aspects of Buffy in that era.

A Thousand Tiny Deaths by the nyxie (PG-13)
Authorial Summary: They meet once a year--long enough to avoid temptation, short enough to avoid losing touch. (Post-NFA)

Angel/Connor

Little Deaths: Family and Incest in The Jossverse by Kita (NC-17)
This has four parts and I'm reccing it primarily for "ii. Daughter: Children of Men" -- the Dawn/Buffy(bot) part. There is so much brilliance and poignancy about blood and death and rescue and etc. And of course it helps that I really like this pairing. ("iv. Father: Survivor Guilt" with Willow and Tara is also very good.)
The Angel/Connor didn't work for me, for a variety of reasons, one of which was that I initially I hadn't realized that of course it was set pre-"Origin." It has really stuck in my head after reading, though, and there's some powerful stuff in there.

Angel/Cordelia

Celestial Ink by Lost Akasha (R)
Gorgeous fic for a pairing I'm not even usually that interested in.

Angel/Dawn

Illusions (Dawn/Lindsey PG-13) [non-lj link] and its sequel, Under Her Skin (Dawn/Angel, mention of Dawn/Lindsey, PG-13) by LaFemmeDarla
Mmm, post-Chosen fucked-up sexed-up Dawn. If that's your kink, you wanna read these ficlets. Extra points for identity/origin fuck-with-age.

Angel/Kate

Like Drowning by girlpire (rating: NC17 or adult or FRAO, Post-NFA)
Authorial Summary: Post-NFA. Kate and Angel run into each other while tracking the same demon.
The characterization and action progression here both feel very believable.

Angel/Lindsey

Evil Hand by Kate Bolin (NC-17)
     Evil hand, naughty thoughts.

Angel/Nina

Metaphysics of the Provocateur by Doyle (NC-17)
     Animalistic artist Nina.
And the Remix: Metaphysics of the Provocateur (The Long Ago and Far Away Remix) by Amy (NC-17)
This remix is very similar to the original but adds a lot of really interesting description. (Nina is an artist, after all.)

Angel/Oz

All Along The Watchtower by Tesla (Oz, Oz/Angel; hard R; post-series) [lj link]
Told in a subdued tone that matches Oz perfectly. Raven writes, "This story works on more than one level: as a character study of future, post-series Oz; as an exploration of why someone might choose to withdraw to a peaceful life even though there are more worthy battles to be fought; as a melancholy look at the past. The setting of this story is so vivid that I can absolutely see Oz living this life."

Angel/Spike

Counting the Days by Dira Sudis (Spike/Angel, Dawn; post-"The Gift;" NC-17)
Authorial Summary: Dawn needs to get out of the house, so Spike takes her down to LA for a visit.
I started reading this because I adore Spike&Dawn. The fic turns out to focus on Spike, which is fine as I adore him period. A major focus is on the Spike/Angel relationship, which is depicted in a way which I wouldn't have thought would work for me but which the author pulls off.

Five Things Spike and Angel Never Did by Lynne (Five drabbles, 500 words.)
The even numbered drabbles here hit so hard.

Angel/Wesley

Untitled by The Brat Queen (PG)
What if Angel had stayed a puppet? This is so cute and dirty and wrong. I love it.

Puppet Fear by The Brat Queen and Wolfling (PG-13)
Angel has puppet fear in the "Connor has two daddies" 'verse. The Brat Queen wrote the Angel bits and Wolfling wrote the Wes bits.

Angel/Willow

Misspent Summer Vacation by Gabrielle (PG/FRT)
Takes place during BtVS S2. Interesting -- and believable look -- at Angel being drawn to Willow.

Angelus/Dawn

Puppy Love by Flywoman (PG-13)
Authorial Summary: Little sister has a secret.

Angelus/Willow

Foreplay Gabrielle (PG-13/FRT-13)
Warnings for non-con fantasies. Really interesting thoughts from a recently de-souled Angelus.

Anya

The Absence of Power by Laure Alexander (PG)
Authorial Summary: Anya used to have magic...

A Is For... by the Mad Poetess (PG-13)
Authorial Summary: Anya. And apples. 'Turning brown, the way they do...' (S6, Anya POV)

Chiaroscuro by Violet (PG-13)
Authorial Summary: "I'm telling you to stay alive, Anyanka." The canvas in his hand, the papers in hers. More than a fair trade. "You're good for the arts."

Five Things That Never Happened to Anya by Lyra Jane
"1. My Perfect Aud" is by far my favorite.

Anya/Buffy

Untitled by Lorraine (~300 words)
Anya's bachelorette party.... Silly and sweet and everyone very in character.

Anya/Fred

In the Business by KindKit (R)
I hadn't expected to like this pairing, but it makes so much sense here. And it's not just about vengeance.

Anya/Joyce

The Older Woman by Doyle [non-lj link]
This is brill. I love this look at Joyce's history. And Anya is, of course, great.

Anya/Tara

Insect Reflections And Other Mistakes by Netgirl (PG-13)
Authorial Summary: Five mistakes Tara's made, two of them with Anya.

You'll Find That Your Arms Are Fine And Strong by k (AU from mid-s6) [personal website link]
This has great Anya voice and is a fun read.

Anya/Willow

Blood Sugar Sex Magic by Lar (NC-17)
"Kindred merely means alike, and a spirit can be as dark as the shadows of hell and still find its match."

Buffy

Dead Season by Nihilistbear (PG)
Why Buffy hates autumn so much.

Eggs, Vegetable Oil, Water by Twinkledru J.
Post-Chosen. Buffy finds some strength, calm, and even something verging on normalcy.

Five Futures Full of Alcohol and Sex by Kyra Cullinan (Buffy/various, NC-17, post-"Chosen")
Buffy with so many of the people she's closest to; a different kind of alcohol for each pairing, with each drink matching the tone/theme of the ficlet.

Five Pairs of Lips Buffy Never Kissed...And Five She Did by Chrislee (Buffy/various, PG, 10 drabbles) [non-lj links]
Some unexpected pairings, and some unexpected takes on pairings. Very believable.

Into the Blue by ascian (R)
Post-Normal Again. So, Buffy, you took the blue pill. How's that working out for you?

Untitled by flurblewig (send feedback to flurblewig @ btopenworld.com)
An alternate version of "Conversations With Dead People" in which instead of staking him, Buffy brings Holden home. This feels so real.

Buffy/Connor

Dry Spells Hard Times Bad Lands by k (Connor/Buffy. Explicit sex, swearing. post-Chosen, post-NFA, no comics canon. 14,700 words.)
I love this Connor, and this post-series world feels very believable. The characters and voices also feel very true.

Buffy/Cordelia

Remedial Buffy by glossolalia (Buffy/Cordelia, Rating: X, Set mid-s6/s3) [non-lj link]
Authorial Summary: Buffy's mopey, Cordy's not, and even if they're slumming, fun is had.
Solid voices, characterization, continuity, and timeline-grounding. Plus girl-fucking Cordelia.

Buffy/Darla

My Eyes Open When The Sun Sets by The Mad Hatter [artisfashion]
Darla thinks about the woman Angel left her for.

Buffy/Dawn

In the Night by maybepink (R)
Post-"Chosen." Everyone always leaves Buffy, and Sunnydale is gone.

Buffy/Drusilla

Burning Bright by Doyle (NC-17)
It starts well before "Chosen," but the bulk of the action takes place post-"Chosen." How Dru sees/understands the events of canon, and then an encounter with someone from her past. I never would have thought of trying to make this pairing work, but with the shared histories and the craziness, Doyle does it so well.

Buffy/Faith

After the War: Texas by Prophecy Girl (R)
Faith'll give Buffy anything she wants, but Buffy wants a guy.

Cracks by [oroborusfox] (R) [personal lj link]
This is so achey and true.

Cruel Mistress by nova25 (PG-13)
AU based on Tam Lin with Buffy, Faith, and Willow. Wonderful use of tone and motif. Feels like fairy tale but also feels like the characters we know.

Penitential by Nifra Idril (R) [non-lj link]
In jail, Faith thinks about Buffy.

The Same Old Story by Minim Calibre (R, post-series, ~1100 words)
Yes, it is the same old story (fucking and fighting, in a graveyard even), but it's done well, and this is how it happens isn't it?

Sealed With a Kiss by the Mad Poetess (R)
Season 3. Authorial Summary: The valentines you never send, and the ones you do.

Tissue by shati (PG; post-"Chosen;" 1,643 words)
I love this tender look at their dynamic -- it's both fun and easy as well as fragile.

Buffy/Giles

Assistant Librarian by Twinkledru J. (PG)
Authorial Summary: Buffy gets a new job, and things change between her and Giles.

Electra by Kate Bolin (R)
Authorial Summary: Giles and Buffy don't deal.
"morbid and creepifying I don't mind, as long as she does it quiet-like"

Mutating Paradigms and Other Shifts in Reality by Minim Calibre (PG)
A lovely look at Buffy falling for Giles. (S7)

Never and Always by Ari (PG)
Post-S4, the gang plays Never Have I Ever on Giles' birthday.

Once, As He Remembered, All Was Singing by Doyle (PG-13/K+)
An AU season 3 where Angel never came back. Tender and real-feeling.
Authorial Summary: Five things that might have happened, but didn't.

Property by shalott
A really interesting look at the Watcher/Slayer dynamic and what it means to be destined.

rough replacements by August (Post-S7, NC-17)
She's the only thing that's keeping him from having lost everything and he can never let himself fully believe she's chosen and chosen him.

Walk This Floor by Athenae (PG)
Authorial Summary: I used to live alone before I knew you. Five sleepless nights (Nightmares, Anne, Helpless, The Freshman, Tabula Rasa).

What Next? by leoclaire (G)
     It's gen, really. Post-"Chosen."

Buffy/Gunn

Untitled by xanphibian
A ficlet that just works. I'd never really had any interest in this pairing, but this ficlet gives so many reasons why it works.

Buffy/Gwen

One Night Stand by Amberina (NC-17)
     Interesting look at control-freak!Buffy.

Buffy/Kennedy

Interruptions by Lasair (PG-13)
Of the challenge, the author wrote, "Oh no! I hate Kennedy! Whatever shall I do? Aha! I shall pair her with S7 Generalissimo!Buffy, whom I hate even more! And thus I will not hate Kennedy's wily selfishness and offbeat assumptions!" It works.

Buffy/Nina

Five Places Buffy Summers Never Met Nina Ash by Lamia Archer (R; post-NFA; 5,259 words)
I love the Rome section a lot. The interactions are all so very different in the distinct locations, which impresses me since I tend to write the same thing over and over again.

Old Becomes New by Lee (Buffy/Nina, post-NFA)
     Two women, grieving.

Buffy/Satsu

Falling in Love With Buffy Summers in Five Easy Steps by Cadence K. (BtVS comics; PG; Spoilers for Buffy comics through The Long Way Home, Part IV; about 1,200 words)
This pairing is hinted at in the comics, but I this fic shows how Satsu's attraction to Buffy might have developed, which I appreciate.

Buffy/Spike

Angels of the Silences by Annie Sewell-Jennings (NC-17)
Authorial Summary: Three years down the road, Buffy and Spike try to find happiness amidst all the broken glass.

At Her Mother's Grave by Laure Alexander (PG)
     What makes Buffy finally believe.

Beneath Her by Laure Alexander (NC-17)
Authorial Summary: One hundred words on a woman talking on the phone, holding keys. A cold view of the Buffy/Spike relationship.

For It May Come True by Kantayra (G)
"Older And Far Away" and post-"Chosen"

The Last Summer by Annie Sewell-Jennings (NC-17)
Authorial Summary: After the world is destroyed by nuclear apocalypse, Buffy and Spike meet up in Australia for what may be the last summer on Earth. (15 chapters)

The Latest in Fake Meat Products by debXena (R)
Takes place during "Doublemeat Palace." Uses wonderful metaphor.

Numbered Days by Nihilistbear (R)
"But I want you to know I did save you. Not when it counted, of course, but ... after that. Every night after that. I'd see it all again ... do something different. Faster or more clever, you know? Dozens of times, lots of different ways ... Every night I save you."

Pour Some Sugar On Me by Nihilistbear (R)
Takes place between "Dead Things" and "Hell's Bells" and really it's all about the Spike/Other. Well-written, believable, and hysterical, Had me literally bouncing at the end.

Rejected First Lines for My Personal Ad
     Spike POV by nongenius (PG)
     Buffy POV by [girlwithjournal] (PG)

Six Important Moments by Nihilistbear (R)
A series of drabbles on the theme Winter/Steam; alternating Spike and Buffy POV.

Subjunctive by jaybitvees (G)
     Post-"Chosen." If only...

Untitled by Nihilistbear (PG)
Three drabbles on the theme of Success/Failure from Spike's POV.

What She Deserves (and the sequel, "Lovingkindness") by Herself (NC-17)
Set a couple months after the conclusion of "Grave" (the Season 6 ender) and disproven by S7 but so believable. Deals with Buffy and Spike, as a couple and as individuals, in some very surprising ways, but ways which still ring true to the characters, and also deals with the other characters. And you keep thinking it's over, but the author refuses to take the easy way out, keeps pushing the characters further, refusing to settle for the easy happy ending. But there's levity there, too; I was cracking up at times. And there are moments of such happiness.

Where the Heart Is by Barb C
A really interesting look at a possible afterlife moment.

Buffy(bot)/Tara

The Secret Game by Dale Edmonds (NC-17)
Sometimes it's about the bare elements; sometimes it's about a facade.

The Sweetness by Amykins (PG)
Sweet and dreamlike and poignant and breaks me just a little bit at the end.

Buffy/Willow

Lovely, Dark, and Deep by Melusina (NC-17)
     The early college years. Bittersweet.

They Make Solitude And Call It Peace by Mosca (PG-13)
They have matured, and they have changed.

Cassie/Dawn

Physics and Biology by Sangerin (PG)
     Matter-of-fact and lovely and poignant.

     Set during "Help."

The Cheeseman/Dawn

A Girl Made From Sky by Doyle (PG)
Authorial Summary: He first saw her in the dream of a monk in Budapest.
Includes spoilers for the end of the Sandman series. Wonderful tone and imagery and use of characters and worlds.

Connor

Autumn by sunka2 (PG)
Connor wonders if this life was meant for someone else.

Family Album Mireille (Connor and Angel gen, rating: FRC, set some time post-NFA [no comics spoilers], 550 words)
Connor, thinking about the people he has been and could have been. Very true-feeling.

Connor/Dawn

Wonderland by Kyra Cullinan (NC-17)
     Just another normal college student.

Connor/Illyria

Untitled by [darlas_mom] (post-NFA)
This is a dark, but not excessively so, look at how Connor's post-NFA Christmas might go.

Connor/Oz

The Post-Finals Tradition by Mireille (Rating: FRT, 4835 words)
I'm gonna steal victoria p.'s rec 'cause she says all that I was trying and failing to articulate: "Oz is Connor's roommate at Stanford. It's cool, and possibly a little too normal, until it's not. Warm, wonderful story with a solid Connor voice and an excellent Oz characterization."

Connor/Riley

In The Aftermath by Kaz (NC-17)
I never would have though of making this pairing work, but it just makes so much sense here, in the aftermath of "Not Fade Away."

Connor/Spike

Foundling by Tabaqui
Post-NFA. Very dark, but so believable. The sex is so not the point but rather the dynamic/interaction between them.

Cordelia

...like the maidenhead on a ship from Hell by Kate Bolin
In which "Grave" turns out very very differently, and both series (BtVS and Angel) go hardcore AU, but with interesting folds back. Warning for dark and disturbing.

Lipsticks by Kate Bolin (PG-13) [text-only link]
     A Five Things for Cordelia.
Authorial Summary: No matter what life she leads, she still knows how to accessorize.

Sweet, Sour, and Sweet Again (The Monster at the End of this Book Remix) by Ari (Cordelia and Fred, 1040 words) [lj entry]
I was hooked from the parenthetical and the opening confirmed that. I might actually say it gets better as it goes along, though. The voices are spot-on, and the levity and the impending doom are so perfectly balanced.

True Love by Executrix (Firefly crossover, River and Cordelia, 536 words)
The title riffs on the first epigraph, and it is a light fic, but it is the more poignant, darker, aspects which so I so love.

Two Things That Never Happened to Cordelia Chase by Doyle
One drabble: Two surprise pairings -- the second of which makes me hungry for more.

Cordelia/Faith

All The Girls Hate Her by Jessica (PG)
Takes place during "Five By Five." Faith tortures Cordelia.

Untitled by [globalfruitbat] (Cordelia/Faith, S3 BtVS)
Spot-on voices, and a Cordelia who doesn't give an inch.

Cordelia/Fred

Cordelia knows she's changed, and she's realizing that what she wants is changing too.. This story has the great humorous self-awareness of the show.

"Well, they do say practice makes perfect and I refuse to settling for anything that isn't perfect."

Cordelia/Giles

Band Candy by Twinkledru J. (NC-17)
An alternate version of the episode which, I'm sorry, is fun and hot.

Cordelia/Gunn

Enormous Panties and Other Things by viciouswishes (NC17, Post-"Disharmony," 1320 words) [non-lj link]
Cordelia wants a night out. She takes Gunn, and it turns into something more than she expected. These characters make so much sense together.

The Joys of Truck Sex and Other Erotic Musings of Cordelia Chase by Maren (Cordy/Gunn, Wes/Angel innuendo; R; Set in S2, directly after "First Impressions")
I love this self-assured Cordelia who knows what she wants and doesn't lose her snark. And I could literally see this happening as I read it, like what do you mean it never actually graced my television screen.

Cordelia/Harmony

Remnants of a Whatchamacallit Evening by Ari (PG-13; S3 BtVS, post-"Lovers Walk;" 735 words)
I don't actually like Harmony that much, but this morning-after fic does a great job of telling a story from Harmony's POV and making me like it.

Cordelia/Nina

Eye of the Beholder by Maren (G)
In an AU S5, someone is watching Nina and Cordelia. A great look at the two of them with a really interesting POV.

Cordelia/Oz

Be Forever Now by Poisontaster (Rating: "Adult. For the sex.", Set in S3 between "Lover's Walk" and "The Wish"., 2499 words)
I probably never would have thought of this pairing, but in this story it really works. Cordelia is wounded and strong and vulnerable and bitchy; and Oz is Oz; and they work.

Cordelia/Tara

An Atlas of the Beautiful World by Croupier (R)
It thrusts you in to the middle and is just so beautiful.

Cordelia/Willow

Denial by Paranoid Kitten (PG)
     Cordelia's in denial.

...like the maidenhead on a ship from Hell by Kate Bolin
In which "Grave" turns out very very differently, and both series (BtVS and Angel) go hardcore AU, but with interesting folds back. Warning for dark and disturbing.

Trendy by Paranoid Kitten (PG)
Bisexuality is one in a line of high school trends, but what if this is more than just a trend?

Cordelia/Xander

If Wishes Were Horses by Priya (G)
The high school years. Short. Funny.

In which Cordelia Chase goes into the woods and encounters a mysterious creature by karabair
     Xander takes Cordelia camping.

The Baby Pterodactyls series by The Walking HappyMeal [Both e-mail addresses i tried don't work. Anyone have a working one?]
Short vignettes about Dawn's awareness of the world around her and her place in it.
Part 1: Mutually Assured Destruction (G)
Takes place after "All the Way." Dawn knows how Buffy feels, though she could never tell her.
Part 2: Singing Back-Up (PG)
After "Once More With Feeling," Dawn thinks about the solo she never got to finish.
Part 3: Umad (PG)
After "Tabula Rasa." A way of looking at some things in the series that I'm surprised I hadn't thought of before.

Between S5 and S6. Authorial Summary: Dawn doesn't feel real, and everything keeps slipping away.

Photos (drabble challenge)
I'm putting these two together because [adjrun]'s was written as something of a response to nongenius'.

Puppy Love by Flywoman (PG-13)
Authorial Summary: Little sister has a secret.

Rough Heals by voleuse (PG-13)
Dawn-centric, crossover with the Firefly 'verse. Dark and spare and powerful.

Untitled by Mary Jo [entwashian] (Firefly crossover)
The first 5 ficlets in a series. Centers on Dawn, with implications of her Keyness, and a believable way to cross 'verses.

Dawn/Ethan

Five Riffs On The Theme Of Intimacy In The Jossverse by Selena Ulrich (Anne/Gunn, Fred/Harmony, Dawn/Ethan, Andrew/Giles, Buffy/Willow/Xander)
I love Dawn here. (Not that the other four are poorly written, but that's the one that really stands out for me.)

Dawn/Faith

Buonanotte by Vik (PG-13)
     Post-"Chosen." It just makes sense.

Queering the Key by glossolalia (R)
In Italy, Dawn is growing up and learning more than can be found in books.

Dawn/Fred

Square Root of Negative One by Doyle [non-lj link]
Set post-Chosen and written before NFA. They have a "normal life" complete with how they met. But of course with these two nothing is entirely normal.

Dawn/Illyria

Amoral Boundaries by Ari (hard R)
Post-NFA. Authorial Summary: Sacrifices have to be made at the end of all things.
It's about apocalypse and ancients and plotty and thematic. It's more about interaction than 'ship.

Bizarre Love Triangle Jennifer-Oksana (NC-17)
Illyria explores the Key's human form.

Black Book by Juliana Theorize (PG-13)
Authorial Summary: Post-Not Fade Away, Dawn and Illyria remember.

The way their relationship could have developed off-screen during S7.

Snarky vampires! What more could you want? Oh, and there are the cute teenage girls falling in love, too. (And no, the cute girls aren't vampires.)

Dawn/Lilah

Drown by Amy (PG)
Authorial Summary: On the Giant Scoreboard of Good, Dawn figured that going to morally ambiguous bars to ogle the same sex on New Year's Eve was really kind of a minor offense.
Amy's Dawn feels very true, and really all the characterizations are spot-on, with gorgeous descriptions and great insights.

Survivors by Amy (Angel S4 AU, NC-17)
A really twisted tale of control and submission and broken-ness during the apocalpyse.

Dawn/Lindsey

The Heaven That Leads To Hell by Lost Akasha (NC-17, 1,230 words)
Authorial Summary: Lindsey finds the key to his future in Sunnydale.
A great look at where Lindsey might have gone before that final battle, and very believable characterization on both sides.

     Artists and learning and coping.

Dawn/Oz

Authorial Summary: "She can measure out the years of her actual existence in the marks on her body."

After "The Gift," Buffy was never brought back. Anya and Xander get married. Tara's having relationship problems. So is Dawn.

So Much History in a Kiss by s.a.
Tara left instead of getting killed. 5 years later, Dawn finds her in a library. What's not to love?

Ten Minutes Every Morning by Colleen (PG)
     A sweet, believable slice-of-life.

Untitled by Green (NC-17)
Dawn imagines what Tara tastes like.

Dawn/Wesley

Disco Inferno by Amy (PG-13)
A terrific look at S7 Dawn, with the pairing being mostly not the point, though I do heart it so.

Dawn/Willow

I Am The Puzzle by voleuse (R)
     Post-Chosen. "You're practically magic yourself."

Trip by Kate Bolin
Ari's rec nails this for me: "non-con. But oh man. The images."

Twice My Burn by Doyle
Authorial Summary: AU after Wrecked. It's two years before you see Dawn again.
This has Unrepentant Willow, which is totally not my cuppa, but it is very much a well-written story.

Drusilla

Beasts of Blood by Alixtii
Authorial Summary: Drusilla does not fear the wild beasts of the forest, but brings them to her bloody bosom.

Dreams by FemailoftheSpecies (PG)
Drusilla before she was turned. Wonderful description of Angelus.

Drusilla/Willow

Drahý Sestra (Beloved Sister) by Rune (R)
Very dark. Willow's in England recovering from Season 6. Someone's looking for a dark sister.

Mrs. Edna Mae Wilkins/Faith

Motherhood and Apple Pie by Ari (Mrs. Edna Mae Wilkins/Faith, NC-17, post-"Consequences," 1452 words)
Edna Mae is so like her husband, but also her own person. They both care about Faith, and want her to feel good.

Ethan

Arcana by kindkit (PG-13) [non-lj link]
Ethan in his Initiative holding cell, and a believable original character.

Ethan/Giles

Epiphanies and Menageries by glossolalia (NC-17)
It's Giles and Ethan back in the day. Beautiful imagery.
Authorial Summary: Ethan, the gifts of the magus, and his Rupert, before it all went to hell.

Five Gold Rings by Wolfing & Magpie (NC-17)
"The Head of the Council and his lover, the reformed Chaos mage" getting ready for Christmas. Reformed!Ethan is hard to pull off, but this Ethan hasn't lost his spark, and really neither has Giles. They're still themselves, complete with tenderness and playfulness and control. They're just slightly older now. They're that old married couple who still have hot hot sex.

The Fourth, the Fifth by Doyle
Drabble. Early Giles/Ethan that in very few words (see: drabble) shows very well the appeal Ethan held for Giles.

The Glass Will Fall Forever by Mireille [non-lj link]
Nostalgia... The glass is falling hour by hour; the glass will fall forever.

Mates by Oz (PG-13)
College-age Giles and Ethan in London, how it all began.

Domesticness! This is such a neat look at how Ethan and Giles' early relationship might have been.

Ripper gets Ethan out of trouble. A first meeting for this pair the likes of which I've never read before. I love it.

Still Life With Lovers by kindkit (PG-13, 610 words)
This ficlet was written for the prompt "peace," and I really like this look at the two of them.

Storm Fronts by Always_jbj (G)
Drabble. Evocative look at the appeal Ethan holds for Giles.

Untitled by Becca Elizabeth (NC-17)
She says this is a WIP, but I think it works fine as a stand-alone. Giles meeting Ethan and Randall for the first time.

Widening Gyres by glossolalia (Giles/Ethan, Ethan/m; NC-17, consent issues; pre-series) [non-lj link]
Seductive and sinister, this backstory explains so much about Giles and about Ethan.

Ethan/Tara

Born to Fly by phendog (R)
S4, Ethan and Tara before Tara appears on the show. A very interesting look at magic and connections.

The Same Rainbow's End by Doyle (PG-13)
Wishverse Tara and Ethan, with Burning Man and lots of familiar faces.

Faith/Glory

Perpetuate the Stillness by velvetandlace
Comas! Glory! Sublimated lust! This is great.

Faith/The Mayor

Girl in a pink dress by Cala Jane (Rating: Adult Only)
She says this is AU, but it feels almost like it could fit into canon. Somewhat disturbing, but oh so hot.

Faith/Tara

Nice Girls by Doyle (NC-17)
     AU from "Bad Girls."

Files and Records/Lilah

Strong Enough by RozK (R)
Proof that Lilah really is the Little Black Dress of Fandom.

Fred

The Girl In The High Castle by Mosca (PG-13)
A post-NFA, Fred-focused, AU in which Wesley was the one who opened the sarcophagus. This fic gives us the scientist Fred who survived five years in Pylea. And it doesn't shy away from the darkness of so many of the events and themes of that final season.

Once Upon A Time by inlovewithnight
Fred's journey to Pylea is not a fairy tale. Stunning usage of fairytale motifs.

The Physics Department by viciouswishes (PG, 125 words) [non-lj link]
Authorial Summary: Fred was one of two girls in the physics department.

Playing God by Noelia (PG-13)
100 words exactly. Fred always wanted to be god.

The significance of a click by Noelia (PG)
Progression through Fred's life in evocative imagery.

Fred/Gunn

Untitled by inlovewithnight
"Your bones have been my bedframe and your flesh has been my pillow" ~ "Both Hands," Ani DiFranco

Fred/Harmony

The Role of Fred Burkle Will Be Played by Charlize Theron by Mireille (NC-17) [non-lj link]
Mireille manages to make this hot and fun and still in character, without straining credibility or making me fed up with Harmony.

Fred/Illyria

Amazon Sisters by DebXena (PG)
A really interesting way of bringing Fred back.

Fred/Jenny

Burkle, W., & Calendar, J. (1995). A non-linear representation of eight months in the lives of two graduate students. by Mireille (PG-13, pre-series) [non-lj link]
I love this look at Fred's life before Pylea, and this is so believable.

Fred/Oz

Runaways by Ari (PG)
Fred runs away during "Fredless" and meets a boy.

Stanford Summer Accelerated Science Camp, 1992. This feels so believable.

Fred/Tara

Heads/Tails by Doyle (PG)
Authorial Summary: Two looks at A Hole in the World.
(I far prefer the second one.)

Magnetism by Doyle
Drabble. A great look at how these two could be drawn together.

Never Was Cool by Ari
Authorial Summary: The summer she was fifteen, Tara spent three weeks away from home, fell in love, and learned the sea.

Fred/Wesley

Untitled drabble by Ari (Wes/Fred, R)
     Really interesting use of language.

Fred/Willow

How Kaylee Frye Won Two Bets in the Space of One Trip by Twinkledru J. (PG)
Very sweet interaction and in-character voices.

In the Rain by Amanda (PG-13)
About Willow and about Fred and about darkness and what could have been.

Not A Date by Calle Dybedahl (R)
Post-"Chosen." The title, the pairing, and the rating pretty much say it all.

Giles

History Repeating Itself by Jane Davitt (PG)
Giles, S3. "I didn't get this job because of my looks."

Silver Magic by Kivrin (PG)
Giles, S6. Before those last battles.

Time to Say Goodbye by Lianne Burwell
Why Giles leaves early S6. An interesting scene that never took place onscreen but could have.

The Waking by the Mad Poetess (R)
When he was eight years old, he carved his name into her skin with a penknife. She was green and wet with spring, and the cut burned deep, bled clear. When she'd finished screaming, she thought, 'So this is love, then.'
Stunning. From pre-series to post-"Chosen."

Giles/Jenny

Poggra-mengri (a breaking thing) by Mer (PG-13, Spoilers through mid season six)
The opening scene with Jenny and the horses . . . so much love. Mer develops really interesting stuff throughout the story, though.

Giles/Olivia

Vex Not the Roses by seraphcelene (Olivia/Giles, Olivia/OMC; NC-17)
Authorial Summary: Olivia does not tell him that there are more than just things that go bump in the night.
This isn't how I imagine Olivia at all, but it's really interesting.

Giles/Oz

Finding a Way by Delwyn (R)
Oz can sense the First Evil approaching and helps Giles in England.

Wind on Dry Grass by Vi (PG-13)
Authorial Summary: Focus. Control. Awareness. His life is a practice in walking meditation.

Words and Pictures by kindkit (Oz and Giles ["gen; UST if you squint"], G, early seasons)
Authorial Summary: Two guys who like words.
The subject matter of this obviously hits my buttons in a good way, but I also love the insight into Oz and the usage of something other than music as a point of commonality between Oz and Giles.

Giles/Riley

Coincidence by Mireille (PG, 150 words)
This pairing never would have occurred to me, but the incident it creates feels very believable.

Giles/Willow

Dangerous by glim (PG-13)
Willow's in England with Giles (post-S6) and she's dangerous.

Life as a Killer by Doyle (PG)
Non-shippy Willow and Giles in England after "Grave." The title and pairing pretty much say it all.

Lighthouse Keeper (The Whiter Shade of Pale Remix) by Meg (PG-13)
This fic cracks me up. (And it's a morning-after fic, so the 'ship really isn't the point.)

Nothing Like a Prayer by Trekker (NC-17)
This just killed me. Takes place years after "Chosen" and is so very dark.

Giles/Xander

Security by [_shewalks]
Comfort, with the implication of a possibility for more. I don't even ship them, but this shows me how it could be a thing.

Glory/Tara

Overated by Alex Dollard (R)
Glory left some of herself in Tara.

Gunn/Gwen

The Now by Sami
Drabble. That scene in "Players" (4.16). A true-feeling explanation of why Gunn got together with Gwen that night.

Gunn

The Four Dreams Of Charles Gunn by Kate Bolin (Gunn & Alonna)
Four ways Gunn's live with Alonna could have turned out. So very believable.

Gunn/Wesley

A Far Better Fate Than Wisdom by Mosca (R)
"and they are put back on the streets saving the world and each other and themselves all over again."
Wesley's fucking Lilah and fighting evil with his own crew. He runs into Gunn, and old feelings resurface.

Metamorphosis by kindkit (PG-13, S5)
Authorial Summary: This is who they are now.
The summary sounds lame, but this is post-Jasmine, so it carries with it a weight and a resonance.

Wesley Rogue Demon by James Walkswithwind and the Mad Poetess (PG-13)
A stunning AU (only in that one piece of canon is changed) of Wesley's past catching up with him in S2 Angel.
I have so much love. And there are some moments that are so painful (though only moments, really). And there are hysterical moments. And it does end happy.
Oh, and the pairing really isn't the point (though it's wonderful), but it felt dishonest to put it under the "Wesley" heading.

Wesley's Liberal Guilt by Jessica Harris (PG-13; a more readable copy is here)
Have you read Rebecca Gilman's Spinning Into Butter? This reminds me a lot of that, only far less depressing.

Gwen/Nina

Five Senses by Amberina (R)
Being a werewolf means all your sense are heightened.

Harmony

The Empress of Ice Cream by Mosca (R, post-NFA)
Authorial Summary: Old vampires don't get wiser, but they get minions anyway.
I don't especially like Harmony, but the author has actually made her an interesting character to me in this fic. I love the allusions to (and perspectives on) canon stuff, and there's a really interesting possible dynamic with her and Fred.

Harmony/Jonathan

Bit Players by [spuffyduds]
zomg, this is perfect. That Halloween when everyone turned into their costumes... Harmony dressed up as a hooker and encountered Jonathan.

Harmony/Nina

Breathless Slippery Slope by k (PG-13, Post-NFA)
Harmony's got a new job and is looking for a roommate. That Nina would get dragged in feels very believable. Harmony is very in-character, and I actually enjoy her even though she usually grates on me.

Harry/Tara

Cursed by Doyle (PG-13)
Harry is Doyle's ex-wife. This takes place before S4 BtVS. It's sweet and tender, but there's a punch at the end.

Holden

Untitled by flurblewig (send feedback to: flurblewig @ btopenworld.com)
An alternate version of "Conversations With Dead People" in which instead of staking him, Buffy brings Holden home. This feels so real.

Illyria

All Shall Love Me and Despair by MarcusRowland and others (West Wing crossover, post-series, includes spoilers for tWW S7)
Illyria runs for president (includes spoilers for tWW S7). // It's a Round Robin, so there are additional chapters by various authors (6 chapters, 5 authors, as of Dec. 21, 2007).

Grandmother's House by Doyle (Illyria, Buffy; PG-13; post-NFA; 668 words)
I'm such a sucker for mythos, and this has really interesting speculation about a connection between the Slayers and the Old Ones.

Illyria/Nina

The Level of Beasts by The Visitor (R)
Post-NFA, Nina comes back and finds an injured Illyria.

Illyria/Spike

Succour (and the sequel: Sucker) by Bogwitch
Illyria. And also tentacle sex. I'm not sure I need to say any more.

Illyria/Wesley

Broken by ascian (PG)
Takes place right after "Shells" (5.16). I hesitate to categorize it under pairing as it's more about the possibility of the pairing. The end just kills me every time.

Illyria/Willow

Finding What Is Lost by Sarah P. (NC-17, spoilers through "The Girl In Question")
Authorial Summary: Wesley needs help dealing with Illyria.

Illyria/Xander

Here's The Thing by The Mad Poetess (PG-13, 350 words)
Xander, feeling unfulfilled by all he does/could have, finds something that just might work

Particular Talents by Karabair
A really interesting look at what The Immortal's history might be.
Authorial Description: He's always had a thing for Slayers. . .

Jasmine

Word Made Flesh by Selena [lj link]
An amazing look at Jasmine -- how she feeds on people and what she gives them in return, and how she views her purpose, and how Connor is different, and free will, and names, and words.

Jenny/Oz

(In)frequently Asked Questions About All Hallows Moo, by Jenny Calendar by glossolalia (NC-17) [lj link]
Authorial Summary: "there is no fundamental, ontological separation in our formal knowledge of machine and organism" (Haraway, A Manifesto for Cyborgs). Let alone ghosts.

Joyce/Pat

Joyce Summers' Calendar: July 1998 by Kate Bolin (summer between S2 and S3)
     The progression feels very natural.

Justine

Lost by zandra_x
Drabble. Justine, and how her sister's death haunts her. Packs a lot into its 100 words, and weaves themes really interestingly.

Sunshine by itsallfiction
Drabble. Justine, after her sister's death; very interesting use of themes.

Untitled by Tania/itsabigrock (PG-13)
Thoughts from the girl in the closet during early S4 Angel.

Justine/Lilah

Window of Opportunity by Amy (NC-17)
Authorial Summary: Wes may have a girl locked up in his closet, but Lilah's got the keys.

Kennedy/Willow

Tequila and Candlelight by Doyle (PG)
In Brazil. Doyle makes me actually like the couple, and not just because they're having difficulties.

Kit

Midnights of Blood and Wine by Sorrel (R)
Authorial Summary: You can take the girl out of the Hellmouth, but you can't take the Hellmouth out of the girl. Kit tells her story, post-Chosen.
Darker than I like to think of Kit, but definitely interesting.

Lilah

Playing Dress Up by Netgirl (PG-13)
Authorial Summary: Lilah -- in a variety of outfits.

Se7en by Jennifer-Oksana (NC-17)
Authorial Summary: Seven sex scenes, seven mortal sins, seven different Lilah pairings. Pick your poison.

Lilah/Nina

Barely Legal by Settiai (PG-13) [non-lj link]
     Authorial Summary: Everyone experiments.

Lilah/Spike

The Joys of Mocking Angel by Laure Alexander (PG)
     Lilah and Spike bond.

Lilah/Tara

Possession is Nine Tenths of the Law by Netgirl (PG:13)
This is dark and creeps me out. but the idea behind it is so interesting. Hence the rec.

The Seduction by maybedarkpink (PG-13)
Ouch. And not in the ways you'd expect.

Lilah/Wesley

Leave Them On by karabair (R, S4)
This fic focuses on Lilah, and gets in her head in a way I haven't seen in other Lilah/Wesley fics. I love the way it deals with her part in that scene in "Apocalypse Nowish"/"Rain of Fire."

Lilah/Willow

Fabled and Fabulous by Jennifer-Oksana (PG)
"I meant it about mimosas and Xena reruns," Lilah said with a low chuckle. "My secret shame is that I just can't get enough of pretty girls in leather who regularly bathe together. You?"

Lindsey

Devil Went Down to Texas by ethrosdemon
A great slice of that time before Lindsey's last return, complete with interesting thoughts on redemption etc.

The Truth is Out There by [killerweasel] (R)
Set during S1 Angel. A short Lindsey plot piece with a very X-Files feel to it.

Lindsey/Riley

Rainmakers by Lar (NC-17)
Men of the land, men of darkness.

Lindsey/Spike

Truth and Law by Fayjay (NC-17)
This is hot. And there is plot, yo. (Set during S1 Angel.) [I also enjoy the far lighter prequel.]

Lindsey/Tara

She Thinks He's Like a Cactus by viciouswishes (Post-"NFA," NC17, 1960 words) [non-lj link]
An image-heavy afterlife in which she has forgotten her past and they are left with each other.

Nina/Virginia

Self Portrait In Two Colours by Fen (post-NFA)
Filled with so many colors, and such specificity re: said colors. (Nina is a painter after all.) On rereading I was also struck by the way in which Nina is drawn to Virginia, how believable that is.

Olivia

Vex Not the Roses by seraphcelene (Olivia/Giles, Olivia/OMC; NC-17)
Authorial Summary: Olivia does not tell him that there are more than just things that go bump in the night.
This isn't how I imagine Olivia at all, but it's really interesting.

Olivia/Tara

Garret by Ari (PG-13, AU from "Tabula Rasa," 771 words)
Authorial Summary: Like something out of Burnett.
The world this fic evokes is "like something out of Burnett," but it also feels very believable for these characters. A lovely, tender fic.

Oz

All Along The Watchtower by Tesla (Oz, Oz/Angel; hard R; post-series) [lj link]
Told in a subdued tone that matches Oz perfectly. Raven writes, "This story works on more than one level: as a character study of future, post-series Oz; as an exploration of why someone might choose to withdraw to a peaceful life even though there are more worthy battles to be fought; as a melancholy look at the past. The setting of this story is so vivid that I can absolutely see Oz living this life."

Oz and the economy of tulips. by callmesandy
[For Doyle's drabblethon.] This is just beautiful and perfect.

The Soul of Wit by Kyra Cullinan (Askewinverse crossover, Oz and Silent Bob)
Authorial summary: Oz and Silent Bob. 'cause they needed to meet.

Untitled drabble by Ari (Oz)
I really love Oz in this.

Oz/Willow

I Don't Wait Anymore by Vik (G)
"I feel like some part of me will always be waiting for you. Like if I'm old and blue-haired, and I turn the corner in Istanbul, and there you are, I won't be surprised." (S7)

Oz/Xander

Multinational Faggot Parade by Ari (NC-17, post-series, ~1500 words)
I, obviously, read this because it included issues of stagegay and reclaiming homophobic slurs :) This feels so real -- both worlds (Xander's and Oz's). And it's interesting and believable to see how much this plausible future is just like high school, but they still very much feel like they have grown up.

Sahjan

Child by _beetle_ (PG-13)
      Sahjan on baby Connor.

Principal Snyder

Untitled drabble by Ari (Principal Snyder during "Graduation Day")
     This cracks me up.

Spike

Old Memories, Old Vows by Laure Alexander (PG)
     "I made a promise to a lady."

Rock and a Hard Place by the Mad Poetess (PG-13)
     BtVS Season 5

Untitled drabble by Ari (Spike and Dawn, dark)
     Dark but so true.

What We Have by the Mad Poetess (PG-13)
A slightly (but only slightly) AU "Grave."

Spike/Wood

Lies I Tell Myself by Thran (R)
Robin Wood's POV during part of "Lies My Parents Told Me." Dark.

Tara

Cargoes by Keswindhover (G)
     How Tara got into college.

Decor by Doyle (G)
Pre-Sunnydale, Tara's early experiences with sex and magic.

Pianissimo by the Mad Poetess (PG)
After "Tabula Rasa." "She doesn't want to sing without Willow."

Report Cards by gentle_thorns (PG-13)
A look at where Tara comes from. Dark.

Tara/Willow

gold star for you by miss maggie (Rating: R for non-graphic sex, 1100 words, S5)
I really enjoyed the use of colors here, and the allusions to Willow's darkness.

Twenty-Eight Days by Hth (R) [send feedback to: bettyplot @ yahoo.com ]
One month in Season 4 from Tara's point-of-view. Although she sometimes rings false against what we learn in later seasons, it's entirely plausible from what we knew of her at the time, and contains some interesting insights into Willow which still ring true.

The Voice of Your Eyes by Olwen (R)
Glory stole Tara's sanity, but a part of her still remembers.

Yours by Prophecy Girl
A dark look at the ways in which Tara copes.

Virginia/Wesley

Piatto Dolce by karabair (PG-13, post-S2 Angel) [part 2 here]
Virginia and Wesley are still hooking up after they officially broke up. Very believable.

Warren/Willow

Her First Taste by Viktoria (PG)
A really interesting possible between Willow and Warren.

Wesley

Choices by _beetle_ (PG-13)
      Wesley on baby Connor.

The Periodic Table of Wesley by Dana Woods (PG)
During "Lineage" (Angel 5.07), Fred thinks about Wesley's development. Brilliant and stunning.

Willow

Bag of Bones by Vik (G)
     Willow remembers them all. (Post-"Chosen")

Black Hole by Gabrielle (PG/FRT)
Late S6, tying so many of Willow's threads that season together with a single color. And all in a drabble to boot.

Choices by Gabrielle (G/FRC)
About the choices Willow has had, focusing on one incident.

Five Ways of Becoming Someone Else by Kyra Cullinan (NC-17)
Authorial Summary: A study in transformations.
Dark and wow.

Forgetful Loneliness by Gabrielle (PG-13/FRT-13)
A really interesting fanwank of why Willow seemed to get over Tara so quickly in S7.

Ink by The Green Chick (G)
That amazing scene in ("Villians" 6.20).

It's What's Outside That Counts by Gabrielle (PG/FRT)
S3 BtVS. An interesting usage of the re-ensouling as a point of intimacy between Willow and Angel(us).

...like the maidenhead on a ship from Hell by Kate Bolin
In which "Grave" turns out very very differently, and both series (BtVS and Angel) go hardcore AU, but with interesting folds back. Warning for dark and disturbing.

Lost by nongenius (G)
Willow post-"Chosen." The little ways we lose people.

Lust by Gabrielle (PG-13/FRT-13)
An interesting explanation of Willow's relationship with Kennedy.

Mother Earth by Gabrielle (PG/FRT)
      Drabble. Willow worries, post-S6.

Myth by Gabrielle (G/FRC)
A look at what/how Willow's parents taught her. The ending packs a punch.

Talk About Love by the Mad Poetess (PG-13)
     "'New Moon Rising," Willow POV

Terra Incognita by Vik (G)
Authorial Summary: Willow knows the earth by heart. (Post-"Chosen")

Willow/Xander

Bleeding by Lalejandra (R)
Post-Chosen and a lot of it is more about Willow than about the pairing. Also: dark and angsty.

Xander

32 short fics about xander harris by nwhepcat
32 self-contained drabbles from various moments throughout the series (including post-series). Very touching and insightful.

Carpentry by nwhepcat (G)
Authorial Summary: Summary: Seven drabbles about Xander and woodworking.
This is a consistently beautiful true-feeling look at Xander. I'm frequently indifferent to Xander, but I fall in love with him for the duration of this story, and it also reminds me of so many of the things I do love about him.

Five Things Xander Harris Didn't Realize He'd Miss About Sunnydale by julia_here (post-series, PG)
Wonderful attention to detail and characterization.

Untitled by victoria p.
Ficlet. Xander post-series, reminded of Anya. Very touching.

Weight of the World by [globalfruitbat]
Xander after "The Gift," acting and reflecting.

Wishverse

And in short, I was afraid by gentle_thorns (PG)
     Kendra in the Wishverse.

Better Than Good by Ari (Willow/Xander, PG-13)
Willow/Xander fluff in the Wishverse? If anyone's gonna pull it off, it's gonna be Ari.

Deathwish by Priya (G)
What happens after the end of "The Wish"?

Orleans by Hth [send feedback to: bettyplot @ yahoo.com ]
A fascinating look at Wishverse Buffy with religious cults and some cameos.

Salvation by faithtastic (R)
"Salvation was a girl with a scar on her lip. Tara had seen it in a dream."

The Same Rainbow's End by Doyle (PG-13)
Wishverse Tara and Ethan, with Burning Man and lots of familiar faces.

Shadowland by Elizabeth Ann Lewis (PG-13)
What happened in the Wishverse before our Cordelia entered it?

Tara Incognita by HonorH (R)
Wishverse!Tara slips dimensions post-"Grave." This is a interesting look at who people could turn into in the Wishverse and how they and their counterparts would interact, especially so many years later.

poly

9 Lives by Miranda and Sally (Spike/Buffy/Tara, NC-17)
12 parts. Season 6. Buffy and Spike are fucking; Tara is recovering from breaking up with Willow. Psychic bonds force them into realizing how much they need each other.

The Annual Scoobies/Angel Investigations Jenny Calendar Memorial Gang-Bang by Booster (NC-17)
How do you make a mass orgy believable and poignant? Like this.

Before School Activities by Ari (Buffy/Giles/Willow, G)
     Lovely early season UST.

Fantasia by Ari (Buffy/Faith/Giles/Wesley, NC-17, 1782 words)
Authorial Summary: Four fantasies and a reality.

Just For One Day - Kate Bolin (Cordelia/Wes/Gunn, NC-17) [lj link]
Authorial Summary: They can be heroes. And get up to other things as well.
Set in Season 2 Angel, this threesome is sweet and surprisingly plausible.

Let Us Never Speak Of This Again by Trekker (Buffy/Giles/Willow/Xander, NC-17)
Authorial Summary: There's a preliminary step to the enjoining spell used to defeat Adam...

Mrs. Simpson and the Chinese Grip by inamorata (Wesley/Lilah/Angel, NC-17)
About control, and desire. Set after "Ground State" (4.02). Read it for the Wes/Lilah love/snark at the beginning if nothing else.

Pretty Good by Niuserre (Buffy/Dawn/Illyria)
Sex and power and hits a bunch of my buttons.

A Sip of Tea by Ari (Willow/Tara/Joyce)
Season 4. Authorial Summary: "One night while Buffy is patrolling, they think the things that no one ever bothers to wonder about."
This is so believable, and I love the characterization, and the sex is blurry enough that it isn't really disturbing.

So Pretty by Twinkledru J. (Fred/Willow/Wesley, NC-17)
Authorial Summary: Fred's lovers are very pretty.

To Be a Lion by blueswan9 (Gunn/Fred/Wes, R, 700 words)
Something that could have happened under Jasmine's influence but didn't.

Untouchable by Trekker (Giles/Joyce, Ethan; NC-17)
Authorial Summary: After Band Candy, Ethan follows Ripper and Joyce...

crossover

Abominable by Ari (BSC, Fred/Janine, PG-13)
Mid-S5. Wolfram and Hart recruits Janine Kishi.

All Shall Love Me and Despair by MarcusRowland and others (West Wing, post-series, includes spoilers for tWW S7)
Illyria runs for president (includes spoilers for tWW S7). // It's a Round Robin, so there are additional chapters by various authors (6 chapters, 5 authors, as of Dec. 21, 2007).

Beginnings by Jinni [personal lj link]
Post-Chosen crossover with the Batman 'verse.

Decaying Organic Snowflakes by Jane (Fight Club, Tyler & Ilyria, PG)
Post-NFA, very believable. "I wish to do more violence."

A Dreamer's Dream by m00nbrain (Firefly; River, Angel; PG; 628 words) [personal lj link]
Authorial Summary: River and Angel meet for the first time but where? Why?

Her Vorpal Sword in Hand by Sangerin (Firefly, Cordelia/River, R)
Cordelia's not my favorite character, so it was really the title (oh the "You're Welcome" imagery!) that sucked me in, though I was wary about the idea of pairing her with River (who is one of my favorite characters). The fic actually makes it make sense, though. I can't say how without spoiling it, but really, go read it.

Hitching a Ride by Meltha (Firefly) [lj link]
Stowaway will probably become a cliched way to introduce a character to the Firefly crew, but it works really well in this story. This story also manages to focus on two characters I don't have great love for and yet cause me to unequivocally love the story.

Hopscotch and Dandelions by Jennifer-Oksana (Sandman, Wesley and Death, PG)
"This wasn't supposed to happen, you know."

How Kaylee Frye Won Two Bets in the Space of One Trip by Twinkledru J. (Firefly, Fred/Willow, PG)
Very sweet interaction and in-character voices.

The "I" In Tam by Executrix (Firefly, PG-13) [lj link]
Something of an S4 redux with a strangely believable way of crossing these 'verses. Selling points: Ethan Rayne, Maggie Walsh, Faith, and some interesting plot twists with fairly solid characterization.

Incurable by Ari (Harry Potter and Firefly; McGonagall/Giles/River, with other pairings implied)
Authorial Summary: The Room of Requirement, an insane asylum, a cottage in France, and three very broken people.

Magic by dorrie6 (Harry Potter, Willow/Hermione)
Drabble. Cheesy, but sweet. And in-character.

The Many Faces of Evil by Amy (Austin Powers, R)
Authorial Summary: Wolfram and Hart's got a new client, and Lilah Morgan's just the lawyer to deal with them.

Meet It and Live It by Twinkledru J. (Doctor Who, PG, AU for both, taking off from "The Gift" for BtVS and "Boomtown" for Doctor Who)
"What if Buffy's swan-dive through the portal to save Dawn actually spat her out through the Rift, in Cardiff?"

Memorial Inscriptions by Vanzetti (Harry Potter, Dawn Summers/Hermione Granger, PG)
Authorial Summary: Numerology, demonology, ice cream and bad drama.

Nameless by victoria p. (Harry Potter, Harry/Faith)
Authorial Summary: Tonight, he's just a nameless fuck in a nameless Muggle club, and he finds that oddly comforting.

The Next Hero by Hth (Harry Potter) [send feedback to: bettyplot @ yahoo.com ]
Giles and Dumbledore. Not quite how you would expect.

Passion of Shadows by voleuse (Firefly, Nina/Inara, PG)
I have some difficulty with this Nina, but it is so beautiful that the lack of transtional exposition is forgivable.
(Inara pre-series, Nina very much post-series.)

The Past and Pending by dorrie6 (Harry Potter, Willow Rosenberg & Neville Longbottom, PG, "This is set between BTVS seasons 6 & 7, when Willow is in England with Giles, which according to the HP timeline, puts Neville in his early twenties and [for the purposes of this story] mid-war.")
Neville is sent by the Ministry to investigate Willow. I really like what's revealed about both characters and how it's done.

Relationship Advice by Calle Dybedahl (Xena; Gabrielle/Tara, Aphrodite/Gabrielle; NC-17)
Authorial Summary: Gabrielle, Tara and a Cyber Cafe.

Revelations by Trekker (CSI, Oz and Grissom, PG)
Authorial Summary: They meet in an interrogation room...

Rough Heals by voleuse (Firefly PG-13)
Dawn-centric, crossover with the Firefly 'verse. Dark and spare and powerful.

Schoolgirl Chant by Ari (The West Wing, CJ/Tara, PG, AU, 100 words)
Prompt: daisy. A lovely look at Tara.

School of Lost Souls by Alixtii (Firefly, Fred/River, NC-17)
Authorial Summary: Knowledge without soul can be a dangerous thing.
DVD commentary
here.

The Season of Spring Comes On by Twinkledru J. (PG)
Authorial Summary: Buffy and Dawn feel that they've earned a vacation. Wackiness ensues. (PG. Post-Chosen. RPF crossover. Mentions of marijuana usage. Buffy/Orlando Bloom/Sean Bean. Also, if you look at it right, you might see some Dawn/Brad Pitt/Jennifer Aniston.)

She's So Lucky by Twinkledru J. (Faith/Britney Spears, NC-17)
Who else but a Rogue Slayer would bring down a Goddess of the People?

Should Shadows Fall by girlchild (Firefly, Nina/Kaylee, G)
Image-heavy (the prompts were art, leaves, and love) lovely short piece.

The Soul of Wit by Kyra Cullinan (Askewinverse, Oz and Silent Bob)
Authorial summary: Oz and Silent Bob. 'cause they needed to meet.

Story of Seasons by raedbard (West Wing, CJ Cregg/Tara Maclay, PG, early seasons TWW/no spoilers, 282 words)
I really love the understated nature of this, and the magical quality. Beautiful imagery... the transitoriness and at the same time the weightiness... And I'm such a sucker for writing on the body.

That Teenage Feeling by mosca (Harry Potter; Rupert Giles/Remus Lupin; post-"Chosen" and Half-Blood Prince; NC-17; about 4,200 words)
Authorial Summary: Two Englishmen meet in a strange city, share a drink, and cast several spells.
I love the thoughtfulness of this -- both the attention to detail and the measured pace.

To Quench Her by Ari (Firefly, Jenny Calendar/Kaylee Frye, PG, 989 words)
Authorial Summary: The heat of August awakens new thirsts in Janna's heart
Amazing imagery and evocativeness. Very real-feeling.

To the Waters and the Wild by seraC (Dawn in Ireland post-"Chosen," PG-13)
I couldn't decide which category to put this under, and finally decided on crossover since it brings in Irish myth.

True Love by Executrix (Firefly, River and Cordelia, 536 words)
The title riffs on the first epigraph, and it is a light fic, but it is the more poignant, darker, aspects which so I so love.

Trust the Morning by dorrie6 (Harry Potter; Neville/Oz; PG; 7 drabbles, 700 words)
From across the room Oz could smell him, all fresh greens and warm earth, with a strong hint of black tea.

Untitled by Mary Jo [entwashian] (Firefly)
The first 5 ficlets in a series. Centers on Dawn, with implications of her Keyness, and a believable way to cross 'verses.

Untitled (The West Wing) [Authorship correction: Posted by The Mad Poetess but an actual transciption of an RP scene, thus credit goes to Josh and Angel's players.]
A fandomhigh snippet. Josh Lyman and Angel on political campaigning.

You Gotta Have Heart by Executrix (Dr. Horrible, G)
[fix-it fic] I like that Penny gets to have agency and decision-making and awareness and yadda yadda.

rpf

Bullshit by Alixtii (Michelle Trachtenberg/Summer Glau, Jewel Staite, Joss Whedon; R) [lj link]
Authorial Summary: "Michelle is on the prowl." "Do you think we should warn Summer?" "No, she's a big girl." (Even as you say it, you know it's bullshit.)
This actually starts with Michelle and Jewel bonding, and the "you" in the excerpt is Joss. I think I'm actually most impressed by the Joss in this, though I also enjoy the women.

I'll Most Likely Kill You in the Morning by karabair (Joss & Alexis, PG-13, BtVS S3)
When Alexis first auditions for the role.
Labelled a WIP, and certainly there's plenty of room to continue the story, but it feels entirely stand-alone-able. So as someone who doesn't read WIPs I am telling you this is entirely safe.

Tipsy, Thanksgiving, Need by Ari (Alexis/Aly/Joss, R)
Authorial Summary: Joss spends Thanksgiving with the beautiful people.
I don't know much of anything about the actors' real lives, so I can't vouch for that sort of authenticity, but the poignancy of Joss' characterization feels true to me from what I know of him.
